TEACHER’S SECTION
Methodology –Personal Interview
Expected Outcome -
1. To start with neighbourhood engagement activity
2. To make students aware about the community issues/neighbourhood issues
3. To get students involved in Civic issues and understand the possible solutions in a participative
approach.
Time – 60 Minutes
30 Minutes for survey + 30 Minutes for compilation and Report writing
PROCESS –
1. Divide the students into group as per strength. (4-5 groups, small groups)
2. Take print outs of survey questionnaire and distribute to each group.

3. Give direction and clear instructions to the students about the task –
a. Each group will interview only 5 persons
b. The purpose of interviews is to identify neighbourhood issues of the area
c. Ask direct questions to participants
d. Do not get involved in unnecessary arguments.
e. Only facts no perceptions or observations
4. Visit the neighbourhood and collect information on civic issues only (Public issues, don’t include
any personal issues in the list)
Examples of Civic issues –
a. Traffic Congestion
b. Waste collection
c. Electricity supply is irregular
d. No clean drinking water etc.
POINTS TO REMEMBER –
1. Support students during interviews,
2. Take permission from school before starting the process.
3. Explain the survey format in advance
4. Explain the data compilation process and template to students
5. Try to create mixed age groups
6. Give responsibility of collation of data compilation sheet to 2 students and display on school
notice board
